Border Patrol finds over $2,900 worth of meth in man’s pockets
Border Patrol agents find over $2,900 worth of methamphetamine in the pockets of a U.S. citizen at the Highway 86 checkpoint.
The incident happened Wednesday at around 4:40 pm, a vehicle with five occupants approached the Highway 86 checkpoint. Agents referred the vehicle for further investigation after an immigration inspection.
At secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents questioned each occupant separately. During a pat down of one person, conducted a pat down of one of the occupants, agents felt something in the man’s pocket they believed to be narcotics. The agents removed the object from the pocket to find that it was two balloons filled with methamphetamine.
The total weight of the methamphetamine was 147.5 grams and had an estimated street value of $2950. The man, a 39-year-old United States citizen, and narcotics were turned over to the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA).
This is the fourth meth-related bust in the last couple of days at the HWY 86 Checkpoint. On Saturday, agents made two separate busts in the span of a couple of hours with a combined worth of over $479,000. On Monday, agents found $134,000 worth of meth hidden in a vehicle’s rocker panels and back seat.
In fiscal year 2018, El Centro Sector agents have seized more than 378.20 pounds of methamphetamine.
