Cathedral City man arrested for two alleged burglaries

A 19-year-old Cathedral City man who allegedly burglarized two homes in the span of an evening is now in custody.

Steven Knight is accused of burglarizing a home around 8:10 p.m. Monday in the 68900 block of Risueno Road, then entering a second home as police were investigating the initial break-in.

The homeowners at the Risueno Road address spotted someone inside their home, but the suspect ran off and was not found during a subsequent police search of the area, according to Cmdr. Julio Luna.

As officers were investigating the burglary, the second break-in was reported at a home in the 68100 block of Tortuga Road, about a mile west of the first crime.

Luna did not specify what led investigators to identify Knight as a suspect, citing only “evidence at the scene” and “additional leads” that led to his arrest Tuesday at his home.

The commander said Knight admitted to committing both burglaries and was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he was being held on $35,000 bail.
