Jewelry, electronics recovered after suspect leads Desert Hot Springs Police on chase

A Desert Hot Springs man is behind bars after leading police on a foot pursuit.

It started as a traffic stop a little after 1 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect refused to stop, then got out of his car on First Street and continued running from police.

When officers caught him, they found thousands of dollars worth of electronics and jewelery believed to be stolen in his car.

The 47-year-old suspect told police he paid for the items at an auction, but officers quickly learned the items were stolen from a Riverside County Costco.

“Cops [were] everywhere,” Veronica Murrell of Desert Hot Springs said. “I didn’t know what happened. Cops [were] everywhere. People [were] standing outside. The cops had already went in to get the guy, and put him in the truck, and took off with him.”

The man has also been identified as the offender in additional thefts in the valley.

Two Desert Hot Springs Police officers were treated for minor injuries.

The suspect is facing charges of grand theft and resisting arrest.
