One dead after Desert Hot Springs shooting

Desert Hot Springs police have confirmed one man is dead after a shooting.

Police found a man shot to death and an injured woman inside a car on the 12000 block of Avenida Alta Loma.

A person in the neighborhood called police saying they heard shouting, while talking to the dispatcher the caller said they heard shots.

Neighbors we talked to said this is typically a very quiet place and they never even hear arguments much less gunshots.

“It’s disturbing you know. You think you know your neighbors and you feel really safe, this is a really quiet neighborhood. We don’t have any activity here at all relating to police,” said Linda Jansen, a resident of the neighborhood.

“This is notorious a quiet neighborhood here in Desert Hot Springs so it is not one of our more active neighborhoods,” said Doria Wilms, public information officer for the city.

A neighbor who did not want to go on camera said he recognized the car. He said he would often see a man and a woman getting in and out of this car and he assumed they were a couple.

The woman shot was rushed to the hospital with what police believe are non-life threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made, police have not released any information on a possible suspect at this time.

This is the second shooting in Desert Hot Springs this week. On Monday evening, a man was shot multiple times in the upper body on the 66300 block of Cahuilla Avenue.
