Three families homeless after house fires
Aviles tried to put out the flames engulfing his home. He suffered from minor smoke inhalation and suffered burns in the process.
One month ago, Aviles’ sister lost her home on Fifth Street to a fire.
“We ended up having her stay with us and then right after, a couple weeks later, this happened,” Aviles explained, as he looked at his burned down home.
Three Desert Hot Springs families were left homeless Saturday after two separate homes caught fire.
Cal Fire Riverside County fire crews tell News Channel 3/CBS Local 2 the first fire was reported at 4:23 a.m. in the 16000 block of Via Vista. The fire destroyed one home and damaged another before firefighters were able to contain the blaze. Both families were left displaced.
One neighbor woke up to a woman’s screams.
“I heard the lady screaming, ‘fire fire!’ So i woke up my husband. The flames were like really really high and we heard popping,” Breanda Diaz, of Desert Hot Springs, said.
The second fire happened a little after before 11:00 a.m. on Second Street in Desert Hot Springs. A family of 10 were forced out of their home. Of the 10, five are young children and infants.
“It spread really fast. It happened in an instant. It felt like a couple seconds,” said Graviel Aviles, who was living in the home.
Both fires are under investigation.
