Motorist identified in Palm Springs rollover wreck

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified a motorist who died in a Palm Springs rollover wreck Monday afternoon as a Tacoma, Washington man.

Randy Bergstrom, 60, died at the scene.

The rollover happened on Highway 111, near Overture Drive. Police were notified of the crash at 3:20 p.m.

Officers on scene told KESQ News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 News Bergstrom’s vehicle was heading south toward Palm Springs on Highway 111 at an unknown rate of speed when he lost control of his 2018 Chevrolet Malibu sedan and rolled over.

Officers weren’t sure how many times the vehicle tumbled.

Police confirmed that the driver was thrown from the vehicle. The California Highway Patrol said Bergstrom was the only one in the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Officers arrived to find a doctor that had pulled over was performing CPR on the driver in an attempt to save his life.

Palm Springs police closed lanes in inbound and outbound Highway 111. Those lanes were reopened several hours later.
