Local students compete in National Shakespeare Competition

To compete or not to compete, that is the question several local students are answering at this year’s English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition.

High school students throughout the Coachella Valley area were invited to participate in the competition.

The competition was started in 1983.The ESU estimates that approximately 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in nearly 60 ESU Branch communities throughout the U.S. participate in the competition each year.

The semi-finals of the ESU Desert Branch were held at Shadow Hills High School in Indio earlier today and the finals were held at the Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre in Rancho Mirage.

The winner will advance to the national competition in New York.
