Motorcyclist identified after deadly traffic crash on Highway 74

A Palm Desert man has been identified as the motorcyclist killed after a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Highway 74 Sunday afternoon.

The motorcyclist has been identified as John Devlin, 50.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a gold Prius and Devlin just before 2:50 p.m. near mile marker 89, south of Palm Desert. Cal Fire called for an air ambulance, but the person perished at the scene. Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were also at the site.

Investigators said the driver of the Prius is cooperating.

The accident happened on the eastbound lane heading toward the Coachella Valley.

Officers directed traffic both ways for nearly two hours, before both lanes were completely re-opened.
