Riverside County primary candidate registration is this Friday

If you’re on the fence about running for office in Riverside County come June, you’re gonna have to make your mind up this week. The deadline to register as a candidate for the upcoming June 5 primary election is this Friday, March 9th at 5 p.m., according to a Riverside County news release.

“Anyone interested in running for office in the June 5 primary election may file papers for candidacy until 5 p.m. Friday (March 9),” read the release. “If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline for that office is extended to 5 p.m. on March 14 for everyone except the incumbent.”

For those looking to just vote and not run in the primary election, the deadline is “11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the 15th calendar day before that election,” according to California voter registration website.

For first-time candidates, there’s plenty of support throughout the primary registration process.

“The Registrar of Voters’ staff is available to help prospective candidates complete the necessary paperwork and to answer questions,” reads the release. “Candidates unsure about the local district offices for which they are eligible, based on residency, should contact the Registrar of Voters office for help. Candidates will receive informational handbooks at the time they obtain their papers.”

Anyone with additional questions pertaining to the upcoming election is encouraged to contact the Registrar of Voters office at 951-486-7200 or at 800-773-8683.
