Sanctuary for LGBT youth opens in Palm Springs
A safe haven for young people in the LGBT community is now open in Palm Springs.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday morning cut for Sanctuary Palm Springs. It’s the first of its kind LGBT home, aimed at providing young people coming out of foster care a safe place to live, learn, and grow.
“Their 18-21 and they come to live with us and we teach them life skills, and skills to succeed in adulthood. We really try and transition them from childhood to adulthood,” said Ellen Wolf, director of development for Sanctuary Palm Springs. “What we try to do is guide these kids, so they don’t fall prey to alcohol and drug addictions, human trafficking. they have a place and a family the can count on and feel confident about.”
Sanctuary Palm Springs currently holds six bedrooms but they are looking to expand as they are licensed for 12 young adults.
