‘Sweet Baby James’ has cast removed

A local infant born with a rare genetic disorder has taken another major step on his road to recovery. ‘Sweet Baby James’ had his body cast removed today, according to his father, Mike Meredith.

“The Super Hero’s armor has been removed,” Meredith said. “The technician said ‘I’m sorry but he’s going to cry, this a pretty traumatic’ I replied ‘you don’t know this baby’ and he kept a straight face through the end.”

On Feb. 17, James returned to his Cathedral City home after spending several weeks in recovery at Loma Linda hospital. On January 29, he underwent a 15-hour surgery conducted by a team of surgeons from around the world.

James’ condition affects just one in every 500,000 newborns, but his extraordinary resilience has shown through the tough odds.

“Cast removal day after 6 long weeks and then x-rays, followed by imaging of his kidneys and organs which they haven’t had a chance to look at with the cast,” Meredith goes on in his statement. “I can’t wait to hug this little man without his cast, I can’t wait for him to sleep tonight not on a rock hard cast all over his body.”

A fundraising page has been created to help Sweet Baby James’ parents pay for his medical expense – click here to donate. At the time of this publication, $17,943 had been raised toward the $50,000 goal.
