Teen arrested for firing into crowd in Cathedral City
A 17-year-old boy who allegedly fired into a crowd following a fight in Cathedral City was in custody today.
The boy, a Cathedral City resident whose name was not disclosed by police due to his age, was arrested in connection with the 1:17 p.m. Thursday non-injury shooting reported in the 35300 block of Corregidor Road, according to Cathedral City Police Cmdr. Julio Luna.
Two groups of males began brawling, and one of the combatants pulled out a handgun and fired several times at members of the other group, then all the participants scattered, police said.
Cathedral City police arrested the shooter at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday near Corregidor Road and Converse Drive, Luna said. He was booked into the Riverside County Juvenile Hall in Indio on suspicion of assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school zone. The shooting scene lies just outside Cathedral City Elementary School.
Other felony weapons charges are pending, according to the commander.
