Man suffers medical emergency at Palm Desert Aquatics Center

A man was in critical condition Sunday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency while swimming in Palm Desert.

Cal Fire, Riverside County officials said firefighters responded to reports of a near drowning just after 9 a.m. at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center, located on the 73000 block of Magnesia Falls Drive.

Officials said lifeguards at the aquatic center were able to help the victim from the pool and perform CPR on him until firefighters arrived.

The swimmer was taken to an area hospital by ambulance in critical condition.
