Uber & Lyft begin service at Palm Springs International
Ride-sharing companies such as Uber and Lyft were previously not allowed to pick up visitors on airport property, forcing travelers to cross the street to be picked up by awaiting drivers.
In January, the Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved an ordinance allowing ride sharing companies to drive directly to the terminal.
“The city council recognizes visitors have a desire to use ride-sharing services at Palm Springs International Airport,” City Manager David Ready said. “Tourism is important for the city and we want to ensure everyone has an easy and enjoyable experience at the airport.”
Uber & Lyft drivers will be able to take advantage of the new regulations starting today. Uber had been cleared to begin service last week, while Lyft’s final permit approval was finalized this afternoon.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Palm Springs International Airport to offer passengers an affordable, convenient and reliable ride,” said Elliot Greenberger, Market Manager of Lyft Southern California. “We want to thank the Palm Springs City Council and City Councilmember Christy Holstege for helping us establish a great experience for riders as they travel to and from Palm Springs
