‘Fashion Week El Paseo’ continues to grow

Every year, ‘Fashion Week El Paseo’ grows, bringing with it people from all over the country and even the world.

“‘Fashion Week El Paseo’ is by far the biggest fashion show on the west coast so it shows others that we’re real. We’re substantial. This is a place to go to,” said Palm Desert mayor Sabby Jonathan.

The event’s growth helps the city in two ways.

Economically, it’s estimated the economic impact is well over $3 million,” Jonathan said. “Which is big, but just as importantly as that, it helps define El Paseo downtown Palm Desert our new vision for downtown Palm Desert and city core.

Susan Stein, the creator of ‘Fashion Week El Paseo’, says this fashion week holds its own among the others.

“We have been compared many times to New York. New York is now all over the city whereas we’re in one place. I might add we have 50,000 square feet for fashion week now,” Stein said.

The glamorous event fitting in perfectly with the city’s brand.

“Our vision for the development of the new downtown Palm Desert is to create a place to go to to hang out not even knowing what’s going to take place,” Jonathan said.

Tuesday night’s show is all about the stars of ‘Project Runway’. It’s one of the most popular shows of the entire event and features local designer Michael Costello, whose design’s have been worn by the likes of Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez.
