Cabazon man charged for allegedly assaulting mother
A 31-year-old Cabazon man accused of assaulting his mother and holding her against her will was charged today with assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment.
Richard Anthony Diaz was arrested Tuesday following the alleged assault that took place in the 14000 block of Marino Street in Cabazon.
Diaz’s mother — referred to only as Jane Doe in court documents — went to the Cabazon sheriff’s station at 9:42 a.m. to report that her son had assaulted her with his fists, sheriff’s Sgt. John Carlberg said.
Diaz was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but prosecutors filed a lesser charge of assault with a deadly weapon against him, along with the false imprisonment count.
Diaz was slated for a video arraignment this afternoon at the Banning Justice Center.
