Beamount police seek 2 suspects in lottery fraud, elder abuse case

Beaumont police today released surveillance images of a man and woman suspected of tricking a senior citizen into withdrawing money from two banks with a story that they needed to use the victim’s ID to claim lottery winnings.

The unidentified suspects approached the victim — who’s over age 65, but whose name, sex and age were withheld — at an undisclosed Hemet business on Feb. 13.

The victim drove with the suspects to two separate banks and withdrew undisclosed, large amounts of cash from both locations, according to police. The senior later reported the theft to employees at the second bank, a Wells Fargo branch at 1494 E. Second Street Marketplace in Beaumont.

The Beaumont Police Department released images of the suspects captured from surveillance footage in hopes that someone will recognize them and contact detectives.

The female suspect was described as Hispanic, with dark-colored hair, and was wearing a long-sleeve white or cream-colored top, black leggings or pants and white tennis shoes and carrying a large black purse.

The male suspect was described as white or Hispanic and balding and was wearing khaki-colored pants, a blue button-down shirt, a black belt and a dark-colored jacket.

Anyone with information regarding the case or recognizes the suspects was asked to contact Detective Steward of the Beaumont Police Department at (951) 769-8500. Information may also be reported anonymously at crimetips@beaumontpd.org or beaumontpd.org/crime-tips .
