Congressman Raul Ruiz meets with residents at luncheon

Valley residents got the opportunity to ask their questions to Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz at a Public Affairs Luncheon held Monday afternoon at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage.

Ruiz, who is currently serving his third term as Congressman, spoke directly to residents about legislation impacting our business community.

“I think its important because a lot of people feel detached and they don’t have a voice. So, we’re giving them not only an opportunity to hear questions that our legislative action committee have prepared and to also to pose their own questions to the congressman and again have that face to face time with him,” said Debbie Frazer, CEO of the Palm Springs Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event was put on by the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce plus other valley chambers. CBS Local 2 anchor Kris Long was the event’s emcee.

Ruiz says events like the luncheon are important as they help him better understand what issues local businesses may be facing.

“I always love coming to events like this because I can really listen to constituents and we really come up with some strong ideas as a community to help improve our economy,” Ruiz said.

Other topics discussed at the luncheon included tariffs, taxes, health care and the Salton Sea. Ruiz, a Democrat, is facing challenges from 4 Republicans as he hopes to garner his fourth term in November.
