Man arrested in connection with Joshua Tree National Park fire
A man was arrested by National Park authorities at the time of the 2.5 acre Monday night blaze in Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.
“26-year old George William Graham was arrested by National Park authorities in Joshua Tree National Park on March 27th near the time of the fire in the park,” reads the statement from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department. “They are not listing charges, but confirmed that we should contact National Park for more details. “
We reached out to the National Park Service, who confirmed that an arson arrest was made but cannot provide the name of the suspect arrested.
The National Park Service says the fire that broke out late Monday damaged the Oasis of Mara, a site settled by Native Americans who planted the 29 palm trees that inspired the name of the city of Twentynine Palms.
According to CNN, the park service said the fire was being investigated as an arson by the by the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
