Armed felon arrested after foot pursuit

Desert Hot Springs police arrested an armed felon after a foot pursuit.

Desert Hot Springs resident Jorge Gilbert, 33 was arrested after allegedly failing to stop when prompted by police and then leading police on a foot pursuit.

According to a news release by DHS PD, Thursday afternoon, at around 3:20 pm, a DHS PD sergeant on patrol in the area of West Drive and 2nd Street attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle.

Police say the driver, later identified as Gilbert, did not pull over and continued to the 66100 block of 1st Street where he then fled on foot from the vehicle. A brief foot pursuit ensued and Gilbert was taken into custody.

Gilbert was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and recovered illegal aerial fireworks which have been confirmed to be some of those detonated in the city, according to DHS PD.

Gilbert has been booked into the Riverside County Jail in Banning for numerous charges including resisting arrest and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
