NFL Hall-of-Famer Lynn Swann headlines 4th Annual Sports Heroes Luncheon

On April 11, Indian Wells will once again serve as host to a swath of sports legends for the fourth annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley’s Sports Heroes Luncheon. The luncheon will be held at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa at 44600 Indian Wells Lane in Indian Wells and will kick off at 11:30 a.m.

Headlining the event as guest speaker is 2001 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Lynn Swann. Swann, who now serves as the athletic director of the University of Southern California, will give a speech about the power of sports in changing lives.

All proceeds raised at the event will directly contribute to the youth development programs at the Boys & Girls Clubhouses in Mecca, Coachella, La Quinta, and Indio.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coachella Valley first opened its doors in 1966 and now serves over 6,500 children and teens at its four valley locations.

“After 38 years with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley, I can attest to the positive influence of sports,” says Director of Major Gifts Jim Ducatte. “Athletic programs are powerful attractions to get kids through the club doors. From then on, trained club staff help level the playing field for these kids by helping to mold their futures.”

The event will honor professional coaches and athletes Coco Crisp, Hudson Houck, Ann Meyers Drysdale, Judi Garman, and Pooh Richardson. Twenty-two local Coachella Valley standout athletes will also be recognized at the event, with one male and female student representing each sports category.

KESQ News Channel 3’s very own Karen Devine will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the luncheon.

The event’s media sponsors are KESQ News Channel 3 and the Desert Sun.

Event tickets cost $125 per seat and are partially tax deductible. For registration, go to www.bgcofcv.com or call Susa Ogrodnick at 760-836-1160.
