“Pavol was right next to me and he was like you know what you need to do. He was saying I have done it before so give it all I have. That is all it is.” Student athlete of the week Desiree Lewis said.

“She saves us, the last relay we were behind and she caught up and won it for us.” Head Coach Pavol Valovic said of his senior captain.

We could be looking at a 4-event CIF qualifier this spring.

“400-free style relay, 200-medley relay, 200-free, 100-free.” as Lewis lists the events.

A ton of individual talent but a team mindset first on a 3-straight year DVL champion program.

“Not so much thinking about me. Thinking about this is the team, what do I have to do? I know I will be more upset if I don’t do my best. So if I think that way it really helps the team thinking the same way and keeping everyone responsible.” Lewis said.

“She’s not the loud type but when she says something everyone is like okay lets do it. She is a great leader, outside of the pool, inside the pool.” Coach added.

She could be going from west coast to east coach all the way to Chestnut Hills, Massachusetts.

“I think I am leaning towards Boston.”

Or just a little ways west instead.

“Possibly LMU.”

Whether she goes either direction she is going to have a bright future ahead.

“May or not be swimming but I want to get into forensic psychology.”
