Hearings delayed for Joshua Tree parents accused of child abuse
The pre-preliminary hearing for the Joshua Tree couple accused of child abuse has been postponed until April 25 to allow more time for the discovery process. Mona Kirk, 51, and Daniel Panico, 73, were arrested on child cruelty charges on March 1.
The preliminary hearing originally scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed until April 26.

Elizabeth Crabtree, the public defender representing Mona Kirk and standing in for Daniel Panico’s privately retained attorney, explained that the postponement for discovery will allow more time to review evidence in the case, like police and medical records.

Kirk and Panico are facing three felony counts of child abuse for allegedly housing their children in a 20 feet long by 3 feet high by 10 feet wide plywood shed for four years. Kirk and Panico pled not guilty to the charges on March 2 and are free on bail.
The protective order remains in place which only allows Kirk and Panico to see their children Children and Family Services-observed visits.
