Car involved in fatal I-10 crash in Banning was headed to Coachella
A car involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 10 in Banning early this morning was on its way to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Nunuz.
CHP received a call at 4:15 a.m about a crash on I-10 eastbound, east of Hargrave. The car, a white BMW Sedan was reportedly traveling in the lane no. 4 when the vehicle went off the roadway, lost control and struck a tree.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
According to Cal Fire, there were three occupants inside the vehicle. One of the passengers, an 18-year-old woman, was ejected from the back seat of the vehicle and died at the scene. The second passenger, a 16-year-old girl seated in the front, sustained major injuries, while the driver, a 20-year-old man, sustained moderate injuries.
The driver and passenger were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
The crash is currently under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash at this time.
