Desert Ice Castle owner responds to bankruptcy filing

The owner of the desert’s only year-round ice skating rink responded to Friday’s bankruptcy filing, after a weekend of speculation by rink goers.

Desert Ice Castle owner Anthony Liu said the Chapter 7 filing was related to a recent divorce, and that the rink will remain open.

“I had a divorce case, and can’t comment too much, but it will be business as usual at the rink,” Liu told CBS Local 2/KESQ. “There is no intention to close it.”

A civil trial involving Liu began Monday in Palm Springs.

The ice skating rink on Perez Road in Cathedral City opened in 2011, and has hosted Olympic skaters, as well as trained local skaters and hockey players.

‘(In the months to come) we’ll be running summer camps, like we’ve been doing for many years. We’ll have youth hockey, hockey club and skating,” said Liu.
