Man killed in Cathedral City officer-involved shooting identified
The identity of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting on April 8 in Cathedral City has been released. 24-year-old Carlos Roman Urias of Cathedral City died at Desert Regional Medical Center at 7:18 a.m. on the morning of the shooting.
At 6:30 a.m. on April 8, Cathedral City Police responded to a domestic violence call on the 33000 block of Wishing Well Trail. According to police, the caller said her boyfriend assaulted her and had a handgun.
When officers arrived on the scene, the woman was outside of the home. While the officers were interviewing her, the suspect, Urias, exited the home holding a gun.
“In the process of doing the investigation, the suspect came out of the house and pointed the firearm at officers and the female. Officers engaged the suspect and asked him to drop the gun several times. He refused and continued to point the gun,” Commander Julio Luna told reporter Katie Widner at the scene. “An officer-involved shooting occurred. The subject was injured and was transported to Desert (Regional) Hospital shortly after by paramedics and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.”
Upon further investigation, the firearm was revealed to be a replica gun altered to appear to be a functioning weapon.
