UPDATE: One person dead after multi-vehicle crash on I-10
Multiple cars crashed Monday morning on Interstate 10 eastbound, west of Palm Drive, in Palm Springs, leaving one person dead.
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. this morning and involved a Suzuki Motorcycle, an Acura, a pickup truck, and a big rig according to Officer Mike Radford of the California Highway Patrol.
19-year-old Raymond Vasquez of Desert Hot Springs was driving a 2002 Acura CL eastbound on I-10 west of Palm Drive. CHP confirmed Vasquez passed away hours later.
34-year-old Aaron Coates of Yucca Valley was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle, also eastbound on I-10 near the Acura, when the two vehicles collided. Coates was ejected from his motorcycle, sustaining major injuries.
The Acura, which had two passengers, veered left and impacted the guardrail. The Acura became disabled and then was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a 2013 Freightliner Big Rig. The Acura sustained major damage and the two people inside suffered major injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
The collision is currently under investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help Vasquez’s family with funeral & hospital expenses. You can donate here
