Man arrested in connection with 2013 Silver Fire

Nearly 56 months after the Silver Fire was first sparked, a major development in the investigation. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department have arrested 53-year-old Stephen Patrick Medlock, a transient, in connection with an investigation into the cause of the 2013 Silver Fire, according to a Cal Fire news release.

The Silver Fire began in the area of Poppets Flats west of the Coachella Valley back in August of 2013. The fire raged for six days, torched 20,292 acres, and destroyed 48 structures, including 26 homes.

Medlock was arrested on an outstanding warrant from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department. He is charged with arson to wildland and arson to property. He is in currently in custody at Smith Correctional Facility and is being held on $100,000 bail.

Medlock’s felony settlement conference is set for May 2.
