Local students taking part in nationwide walkout

April 20 marks the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre that left 12 students and a teacher dead.

Students across the country and right here at home will be walking out of class taking action to prevent gun violence.

Last month, students at Palm Springs High School spoke out and walked out of class during the nationwide “Walk for Our Lives.” Tomorrow, those students will do the same.

There will be speakers on campus, a moment of silence will be held, and a forum will get underway where students can express their views on gun control, gun violence, and student safety.

“That was one of the first massacres that really opened up a conversation about gun violence in America and what that means. I think that is important to remember the first one to reflect on how many we have had since,” said Jack Weaver, a senior at PSHS.

Students at Palm Desert High School will also be holding a walkout tomorrow, using the football field as a place to meet and remember the 12 students and one teacher who died during the Columbine massacre.
