Students learn about clean water access in 6K walk
Some local middle school students got a chance to learn about clean water access through the Walking for Water 6K. It was held at Nellie Coffman Middle School in Cathedral City Saturday morning, with students from middle schools across the Coachella Valley participating.
About 300 students participated in walking and doing eco-friendly arts and craft, such as making bird nests and trinkets with recycled materials. They also raised money for help kids in Sudan.
According to event organizers, the six kilometers represents the average distance people in impoverished area of the world have to travel to access a source of clean water.
The 6K walk has been going for three years, and organizers said they plan to continue the walk next year.
