Local teen wins national Shakespeare competition
Palm Valley School’s Jackson Dean celebrated a big win on William Shakespeare’s birthday Monday, taking top honors at the National Shakespeare Monologue Competition in New York City.
According to his aunt Lisa Rossi Gomez, 22,000 students initially competed, 55 went to New York, and Jackson had to present a sonnet, a monologue, and a cold reading.
“Shakespeare is an art form,” says Jackson. “Shakespeare is fascinating and a truly remarkable advanced form of drama and theater.”
Jackson received a full scholarship to attend the Young Actor’s Summer School at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for winning first place.
