One person dead, two injured after Cathedral City crash

Authorities released a partial identification on a motorist killed in a Cathedral City crash Monday evening. Two others were hospitalized.

The Riverside County Coroners Office said an 83-year-old Henry Dookie of Desert Hot Springs died in a collision shortly before 8:50 p.m. near the intersection of Mountain View Road and Varner Road. Three vehicles had collided during the collision, according to the officers who first arrived on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Cadillac was traveling north on Mountain View when it veered into the southbound lanes for unknown reasons. It then collided head-on with a Plymouth traveling in the southbound lane. A third vehicle, a Honda, avoided the collision but left the road striking a dirt embankment.

Dookie, the driver of the Cadillac, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passengers of the Plymouth were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Two others were taken to a hospital for treatment. Mountain View Road was closed from Varner to Dillon for an investigation.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The condition of the injured passengers and the identity of the deceased driver have not been released at this time. The identity of the deceased driver will be released pending notification of next of kin by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
