Two Marines shot during high desert training exercise

Two Marines have been hospitalized after suffering gunshot wounds Sunday during a training exercise at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms.

According to a news release from the 1st Marine Division, two Marines suffered small-arms gunshot wounds while conducting a live-fire training exercise at the base. Both Marines were taken to the hospital by an air ambulance.

At this time, one Marine has been released from the hospital and the other remains hospitalized in serious condition, according to the news release.

Officials are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
