Mecca mother reported missing, car found burned

A missing person report was filed this morning for Maria Guadalupe Alvarez this morning, as confirmed by Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

A search is currently underway for the 40-year-old Mecca woman, who was last seen between 5:45 a.m.-7 a.m. this morning, according to her son. Her son describes her as being 4’10”, 100-120 pounds, with brown eyes and waist-length black hair.

Earlier today, the Bureau of Land Management recovered a vehicle belonging to Alvarez in the area of Box Canyon Rd. in Mecca, as confirmed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The car was burned, but according to the Sheriff’s Department, they do not believe there was foul play involved in Alvarez’ disappearance.

California Highway Patrol assisted the Bureau of Land Management in the vehicle recovery.
