Mother’s Day keeps moms, businesses happy

Downtown Palm Springs was busy with families celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday.

“Yes, it was all about me today,” said Brenda Schultz, whose son, Ryan Juckett, drove in from out of town to take her shopping. “It’s been a good Mother’s Day. It’s been a blessing.”

Others chose a different way to enjoy the day.

“I love my family, but I wanted some alone time so the spa was really perfect,” said Brenda King, whose husband, Ryan, surprised her with a massage at The Parker Hotel.

“I just wanted to relax and drink some mimosas with my son,” said Jamie Vandewater, who drove in from Highland with her family.

Local businesses were happy to accommodate the crowds. The owner of My Little Flower Shop, Gregory Goodman, said it was the busiest year he has ever seen at his shop on Palm Canyon,

“It’s been a fantastic Mother’s Day. It’s the biggest we’ve ever had out here. We’ve done over a thousand deliveries,” Goodman told KESQ News Channel 3’s and CBS Local 2’s Katie Widner.

Goodman said he had to order 80 cases of flowers this year, which filled up his walk-in refrigerator. The cooler sat nearly empty by 3 p.m.
