Robert Pape’s ex-wife takes the stand in Day 14 of Pinyon Pines murder trial

After a four day break, the Pinyon Pines triple murder trial is once again underway in its 14th day.

Last Wednesday, testimony from key witness Jeremy Witt was read in open court, after a decision was made that he would not physically take the stand in Riverside Court.

Witt, who was co-workers with Cristin Smith at Knott’s Soak City, was initially set to take the witness sand and deliver key testimony which allegedly incriminated both Robert Pape and Smith in the September 2006 murders of Vicki Friedli, Becky Friedli, and John Hayward. Witt ultimately decided to evoke the fifth amendment so as to not incriminate himself in ongoing cases against him.

Cristin Smith and Robert Pape are both charged with three counts of first-degree murder with special circumstance allegations of taking multiple lives. The 29-year-olds face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted in the killings.

Witt, whose first involvement in the investigation came when he issued an anonymous tip to police 2011, once again was the focus of the court’s proceedings today. The day’s first witness was Investigator Ryan Bodmer, who worked to uncover who issued the anonymous tip in 2011, and was one of the first of two investigators to interview Witt after identity was apparently discovered.

Prior to stepping down from the stand around 10:10 a.m., Bodmer stated that Witt did not want to be a part of the case, according to an initial interview.

The second witness to testify was Jessica Woodbridge, who works as the custodian of records for Bank of America. Woodbridge’ testimony focused on Robert Pape’s checking account activity from August 24 – September 12, 2006. According to the records, there was no activity on the Sep 17, the day of the murders.

After Woodbridge was excused, Sara Honaker, the ex-wife of Robert Pape, took the witness stand.
