One person dead after fiery crash on I-10 in Coachella

One person died after a fiery crash on the westbound I-10 early Tuesday morning in Coachella. The crash occurred just east of the Dillon Road exit.

California Highway Patrol officers said they received the call of a brush fire at around 2 a.m. CAL FIRE crews were dispatched and found a vehicle engulfed in flames. The blaze was contained within an hour and one person was found dead inside the vehicle. Officers said the person’s body was so charred no immediate identification was available.

They said the car was traveling westbound on I-10, then somehow lost control before crashing into a exit sign pole and then bursting into flames. Why the car the lost control remains under investigation.

No word on whether drugs or alcohol are involved.

The scene was cleared by 5 a.m.
