Toddler dead, twin sister in critical condition weeks after falling into backyard pool

A 17-month-old girl is dead and her twin sister remains in critical condition after both fell into a backyard pool nearly two weeks ago in their Moreno Valley home.

The twins’ parents spoke with KTLA about what happened. The mother said she had dozed off while the twins were playing in the living room. When she woke up, the twins were gone.

The toddlers had managed to escape through a breeze window and pushed the screen off, according to their GoFundMe page.

The mother ran to the backyard and saw one of her daughters in the pool. She jumped in and grabbed her. The father saw the other toddler in the shallow end of the pool. They called 911 and performed CPR until first responders arrived.

The toddlers were taken to a local hospital suffering from extensive brain damage and were both medically sedated, according to the mother.

On May 12, one of the twins woke up, while the other was pronounced dead after being taken off life-support. The living twin remains in critical condition, a family relative told KTLA.
