Two seriously injured after minivan crashes through Cathedral City store

A minivan crashed through a Cathedral City storefront today, seriously injuring a 77-year-old customer and the vehicle’s driver, who apparently suffered a medical emergency that caused him to black out, police said.

The crash happened at 1:20 p.m. at the Angel View resale store at 67625 E. Palm Canyon Drive.

The driver, whose name was not released, was parked in front of the store when “an undetermined medical emergency” caused him to pass out and inadvertently press down on the accelerator, according to Cathedral City police Cmdr. Julio Luna.

The van went through the store’s front windows, striking a woman who was shopping inside, Luna said. The woman and the driver were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, he said.
