Bicyclist dead after collision in Palm Desert

Update: 5/17/18 – 9:00 a.m. – The bicyclist has died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The victim has been identified as Ms. Diana Lynn Young as confirmed by her employer, the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa.

“We are devastated by the loss of our stewarding associate, Ms. Diana Lynn Young, and the tragic accident that led to her death. Ms. Young was a dedicated associate of the resort for the past seven years,” reads a statement from Chad Sitkowski, the Resident Manager at the Marriott. “We are providing grief counseling for our associates, and respecting privacy at this time. This matter is under police investigation, and we stand ready to assist. As this is an active police matter, it would be inappropriate to comment further. If you have questions, please contact the police department.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the crash and the investigation is still active, according to Deputy Armando Munoz of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

A bicyclist was rushed to a hospital Monday morning after being hit by a car in Palm Desert.

The accident was reported at 6:10.

It happened on Country Club Drive, in the eastbound lanes, between Cook Street and Portola Avenue.

Eastbound lanes on Country Club were closed as of 7:30 Monday morning, and investigating officers did not provide information on when the roadway would re-open.

No word yet on how the accident happened.

The names of the bicyclist and the driver have not been released.
