PSPD investigating alleged assault of student by a staff member at learning center in Palm Springs
The Palm Springs Police Department is investigating an alleged assault of a 13-year-old student by a member of the staff at Stepping Stones Learning Center in Palm Springs. The alleged assault occurred yesterday.
“We are investigating this incident and take all allegations of abuse seriously,” reads a message from Lt. Frank Browning, Investigations Supervisor for PSPD. “A full investigation into what led up to the alleged abuse is underway in an attempt to hold those responsible and accountable for their actions.”

The PSPD statement regarding the investigation was released via the Palm Springs Police Department Facebook page shortly before 10 a.m. this morning.
“Our police department received the call for service at 1211 pm and officers arrived on scene at 1224 pm. Our officers interviewed all involved parties,” continues the statement from Lt. Browning. “A report was taken and forwarded to my investigations unit for further follow-up. We are conducting the follow-up investigation and will be submitting the case to the District Attorney’s office for filing consideration upon completion.”
Storey Lantry Chavira, the boy’s mother, shared this post last night about the alleged assault.
Stepping Stones serves as a learning center “for both homeschooling and independent study learning,” according to its website.

KESQ & CBS Local 2 spoke with the Executive Director at Stepping Stones who did confirm that some sort of assault did take place, but due to the ongoing investigation, his attorney has told him that they should not comment about the incident.
