Laser Med Spa offers new service to help transgender community

For many laser hair removal is a luxury and a choice, but for one population it’s a different story.

‘Laser Med Spa’ in Palm Desert is breaking barriers, catering to the transgender community. Local resident Nicole Snow said since she started her treatments, she’s never felt more like her true self.

“You look in the mirror and you really want to see how you feel inside, so removing the hair most importantly on the face is so important because it becomes a big deal you look so much more like a female,” Snow said.

The treatments are every four weeks and can be done on any part of the body.

“The less hair you see just makes you so lit up in your heart,” Snow said.

The spa is the first in the country to offer this type of service to the trans community.

“We wanted to make sure this service was offered here because of the lack of support for the trans community in the Inland Empire and we’ve been in business for several years, so we’re already established,” said Tony Laca, Chief Operating Officer of the spa. “We wanted to offer this service to the trans community because they’re underserved and it’s medically necessary for them to transition.”

“I think medicine is a lot more than just giving people blood pressure pills and diabetes pills for this population of patients. It’s so delicately intertwined into their clinical presentation that you’re being negligent if you don’t pay attention to this,” Francisco Pardo, the medical director of the spa.

The service is even covered by some insurance providers.

Owners hoping to eventually have other med spas offer similar services at locations across the country.

“It’s really about centering someones being and soul and that’s really what we should be doing as physicians,” Pardo said.

Snow said her treatments have changed her life and she hopes others will follow in her footsteps.

“Don’t be afraid. So many people are going to tell you what to do or what not to do and it’s really just in your heart and the biggest thing you can do is follow what you want and like I tell people, taking steps in life that’s what we do and we all go through that not just transgender people,” Snow said.

So far the spa has had 10 transgender clients use their services. They are hoping once word gets out, they can continue to help more people.
