Man arrested for allegedly shooting girl, 14, in the head

A Thousand Palms man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the shooting a 14-year-old girl Sunday night in Indio, police said.

According to the Indio Police Department, officers were dispatched to the shooting at the 81700 block of Avenue 46 at around 10 p.m.

Police say the 14-year-old was traveling in a vehicle in the area of John Nobles Avenue and Monroe Street along with at least four other juveniles, including a 5-year-old child sitting the back.

The suspect fired multiple shots at the vehicle, one of which struck the teen in the head. No other injuries were reported.

The teen is currently listed in stable condition, according to IPD.

Detectives identified the suspect as Vicente Manuel Reyes, 22, of Thousand Palms. Reyes was located Tuesday in Cathedral City. He was taken into custody without incident.

Prior to the shooting, Reyes was on active parole for assault with a deadly weapon and had several gang contacts out of Indio, according to IPD.

Reyes was later booked into the Indio Jail on 6 counts of attempt murder, several counts of child abuse and child endangerment, and violation of parole.
