Cathedral City renames two streets to honor local students
Two Cathedral City streets were renamed today in honor of a pair of local students being recognized for their academic achievements.
City officials christened two roadways for Cathedral City High School student Anthony Pacheco and Mount San Jacinto High School student Stephanie Lopez-Duardo, with both streets adjacent to the students’ respective campuses. The streets will bear Pacheco and Lopez-Duardo’s names for one year.
Pacheco has a 4.6 GPA and was involved in student government through all four years of high school, serving as vice president through his junior year and executive vice president during his senior year.
Pacheco will attend the University of Southern California on a scholarship and intends to major in applied and computational mathematics, with dreams of working in business or a medical field advocating for the LGBTQ community.
Lopez-Duardo served as the student board representative during the 2017-18 school year, was involved in student government and will attend College of the Desert, where she will major in nursing.
Lopez-Duardo hopes to earn an associate’s degree at College of the Desert, then a bachelor’s of nursing degree from a California State University campus, with an ultimate goal of receiving a master’s degree in nursing and becoming a nurse practitioner.
Pacheco was honored at 7 a.m. and Lopez-Duardo at 7:45 a.m.
