In-depth preview of the State Senate & Assembly races
Republican Incumbent Jeff Stone of Temecula faces challenges from two Democrats in the State Senate 28th District election.
They are Joy Silver who’s hoping to expand affordable housing and protect health care. Also Anna Nevenic of Riverside, campaigning on affordable education, health care reforms, and well-paid jobs.
The district runs from Blythe, through the Coachella Valley, and Temecula to Wildomar.
In the race for the State Assembly’s 42nd District, adds have likely been clogging your mailbox for weeks now. Campaign mailers touting candidate strengths while pointing out the other’s weaknesses.
Incumbent Republican, Chad Mayes, of Yucca Valley faces a strong challenge, not only from Democrat Deniantionette Mazingo, but also fellow Republicans Gary Jeandron, and Andrew Kotyuk who blame him for siding with Democrats to pass the Governor’s Cap and Trade gas tax. Mayes denies that, countering with his record– tough on crime– and strong ratings as a consensus builder in Sacramento.
The State Assembly’s 56th District– includes communities in eastern Riverside County and Imperial County, including Blythe, Bermuda Dunes, Thousand Palms, Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, Mecca, and Oasis.
Incumbent Democrat, Eduardo Garcia, of Coachella faces two Republican challengers.
They are local pastor and retired Marine Officer Jeff Gonzalez, who’s opposed to California’s cap and trade program and wants to repeal the recent gas and car tax hikes.
And Business Owner Jonathan Reiss who wants to work toward reducing governmental dysfunction while creating a more business-friendly atmosphere.
Garcia touts his efforts to fund infrastructure projects that serve disadvantaged communities and restore the Salton Sea.
As with the other races, the top two vote-getters advance to the November general election.
