Man attacked by roommate with metal bat while in his sleep, the suspect remains at large

A Cathedral City man says he woke up to his roommate attacking him with a metal bat April 25, early in the morning.

“He straight out told him, ‘I’m going to kill you. I have to kill you’,” Gina Burnette said.

Gina is Jason Burnette’s wife. Jason allegedly attacked by his rooommate in the middle of the night. Gina says Jason woke up to his roommate on top of him beating him with a baseball bat. The couple believe Jason was targeted for money. Gina says the roommate, Jason Allen, knew Jason had cash on him.

The roommates were in the middle of a move and going separate ways after the homeowner of the house they were living in decided to sell the home.

“The guy was like, ‘I’m going to kill you. I have to kill you. Where’s the money?,” Gina said. .

Jason Burnette told Allen where to find the cash. When Allen left the room for the cash, Jason Burnette managed to get help from a neighbor.

Gina says the attacker got away with $3,000 and Jason Burnette’s car, which was recently found in Modesto, CA.

According to Gina, the suspect is still at large.

Jason Burnette is recovering from a fractured skull, broken arm, leg and hand.

The Burnette family has set up a Gofundme page to help with medical bills.
