Motorcyclist dies in Palm Springs traffic collision

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 77-year old Richard Lowry of Sebastopol.

A motorcyclist died in a traffic crash in Palm Springs Saturday night.

It happened just after 9:30 when a 4-door Chevrolet and a slingshot three-wheel motorcycle collided, said a news release from the Palm Springs Police Department. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured. The PSPD said it did not appear that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

East Sunny Dunes and South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs were closed for several hours. The roads reopened at around 7:05 a.m. Sunday morning.

The name of the decedent will be released by the coroner upon notification of family. If you witnessed this collision, you are asked to call the PSPD Traffic Unit at 760-323-8105.
