‘The Martian’ author Andy Weir to speak in Palm Springs
Author Andy Weir, best known for his novel “The Martian,” which became a hit Hollywood film, will be in Palm Springs as part of the “Palm Springs Speaks” series.
Weir, a software programmer by trade, hit it big with his debut novel, “The Martian,” which follows an astronaut’s harrowing and humorous fight for survival when a dust storm leaves him stranded and presumed dead on Mars.
The book became a best-seller and netted Weir the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, among other accolades. In 2015, the novel was adapted into a critically acclaimed movie starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott.

Weir will close out the 2017-18 “Palm Springs Speaks” series season tonight night with a lecture that doubles as a book signing, featuring copies of his latest novel, “Artemis,” which was released last year.
Tickets are $25 for General Admission and $50 for VIP access, which includes a meet and greet VIP reception with Weir, a hardcover copy of “Artemis” and VIP seating at the main event.
Tickets can be purchased at pspandyweir.eventbrite.com/ .
