Coachella structure fire spreads to date palm grove, causes $15 million in property damage
Firefighters battle residential structure fire in Coachella.
The fire was reported at around 2:46 p.m. at the 83000 block of Avenue 54 in Coachella. The fire was contained by 7:08 p.m.

According to Cal Fire, crews are on scene of multiple debris piles, with one residential structure on fire, that is spreading into an active date palm grove. The raods have since reopened.

Cal Fire confirmed the residential structure was completely destroyed at around 3:44 p.m. Wing gusts of 15-20 mph led to the fire spreading at an accelerated rate.
Gusts in the area are around 15 to 20 MPH. Cal Fire has requested additional resources. 61 firefighters and 16 engine companies are currently on scene dealing with the fire.

The Imperial Irrigation District is shutting down power in the area. Avenue 54 between Jackson Street and Calhoun Street has been closed.
