Suspect arrested in relation to Desert Hot Springs shooting

A suspect is now in custody in relation to Sunday’s shooting in Desert Hot Springs.

Sunday at around 2:20 pm, a man was shot in the upper body in the 66700 block of 8th Street. The man was transported to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is currently recovering in the intensive care unit, according to DHSPD Chief Dale Mondary.

Jeffrey Grant Hammer Jr., 33, was arrested Monday morning at a location in the 66300 block of Seventh Street without incident, according to DHS PD. Police say he is the suspected shooter in Sunday’s incident.

Hammer is being held in lieu of $1,000,000.00 bail at the RSO Banning Jail for attempted murder.
